Pre-Century Century

Today I signed up to the the Tour de Cure in Jacksonville, FL on May 18 as my final big training run before Tahoe. It seems like doing 100 miles flat before I do the 100 miles hilly might be a good idea. Tour de Cure is for diabetes. I joined the Team Red since our daughter Lee Ann has been a Type 1 diabetic since she was a little girl. It is not an easy disease, although technology is much improved. Yesterday was a total washout here with heavy rains. Today I did 28 miles inside The Landings where we live. Nothing hurts, thank goodness. A guy in a SUV almost side-swiped me on Landings Way South. Since I am President of The Landings Association Board, I couldn't shoot him the finger (no matter how much I wanted to. it is called impulse control) but I did it after I got home. Tomorrow I have a 6am spinning class. I find them helpful. It isn't quite like being on the road but it helps get the legs stronger and the butt tougher.

DON Day #1

DON stands for double or nothing.  In my days in high school,  the football boys did two-a-days in their training before the start of the season.  Same thing.
With the DON,  the rules are:
1)  7 day duration
2)  each day one must do two of the following:  30 minutes of swim, bike, or running
3)  must be completed between Jan 1st and Mar 31
4)  in the 7 day period, one must do two other workouts like yoga or weight training or pilates or whatever.
5) the work for that day must be posted on the Savannah Triathlon Team facebook page.

No I am not training for a triathlon but this is a good 7 day kickstart program,  especially 'cause we are having a real cold spell here.

What's the big deal you say?   It is harder than you think to fit this into your life.    It is a great way to kick off the 2013 endurance event training season.

Today, Sunday Feb 17  I did intervals on the treadmill for 30 min and I swam laps for 30 minutes at The Landings Oakridge Fitness Center.

Don de don don

I am starting my new blog to chronicle my training for the Team in Training Lake Tahoe Century Ride on June 2nd.    I've done one century ride before in Western Ohio where it is really really flat.   The elevation changes around Tahoe are going to be lots of fun.

I've been training for a couple of weeks now.   I am starting a DON today (double or nothing) with two work outs per day,  each one being a different triathlon activity.  So I can swim and bike,  or run and swim or any two combinations.   Each one must be 30 minutes.  The DON lasts for seven days and must also include two separate non tri workouts, like a yoga class or using weights.
In order for the DON to count,   I have to post it each day in the Savannah Triathlon Team Facebook page.   I am expecting lots of trash talk.   It is a fun way to start the training season.
